WW Saturday Ride to Pool Bridge Cafe at Crockey Hill, 22 June 2024.

Pleasingly the weather was kind as Phil R, myself and a welcome appearance from Glyn met at the Shambles. We were to meet Bob L and Pete C at the top of Windmill Hill for our Saturday Social Ride. We managed to fool them as we didn’t take Windmill Lane but still needed to climb to the same point but by New Road and High Street.
All assembled we set off via Stutton to the A162 and Raw Lane. We had a gentle tailwind taking us through Ulleskelf, Ryther and Cawood. For a change we went through Kelfield picking up the road to the A19 and Escrick before turning towards Wheldrake. It is a sharp left to Crockey Hill and the cafe two miles back.
Our timing was perfect as the cafe was quiet allowing us time to choose a table outside and place our orders.
The cafe is part of an open water swimming facility with two saunas, and a caravan park. Being a warm day the swimming was popular with a number of ladies, presumably a club, all descending on the cafe while we were there. One lady was on her own and I assumed she had been sent to Coventry! She said she liked the peace and tranquility. 😊
Our food was good, Bob and I partaking the scrambled eggs, while bacon sandwiches were also popular.
Alas time to get back. From Crockey Hill we headed via Howden lane to Naburn, Acaster Malbis and Copmanthorpe. The final leg being the usual Wighill and Walton where we said our cheerios and headed home.
It had been a decent tempo both out and back plus for Glyn his longest ride for a while, he hadn’t topped 100 for the week for quite some time.

Thanks guys.
