WW Saturday Social Ride to Askham Richard, 20 April 2024, 30 miles.

Quite a turn out with 8 vibrant wheelers committed for action.
I had chosen a shorter and easier ride to ensure everyone felt comfortable as we had Stuart returning following his surgery, Phil R finally feeling well enough to participate, Mark on only his second ride, Alec finally getting his mojo working and a couple of others on their recovery program. I had posted it was a steady ride and it seemed to drag a few extra souls out to enjoy the better day even if it was colder in the wind.
The magic number of 8 meant we had enough for a team to play Korfball. A sport similar to Netball and Basketball.
The players being Stuart, Mark, Pete C, Bob L, Fred, Phil R, Alec and me Steve B.
With five of us starting from the Shambles we headed out on the Walton road and collected Bob, Stuart and Pete before heading to Wighill, Tadcaster, Bolton Percy, Appleton Roebuck and Acaster Malbis.
The fine day had clearly done the trick as there were plenty of other riders enjoying their efforts.
Despite pacing ourselves it didn’t stop us performing a fly past at Acaster Airfield.
In conversation with Fred I asked which clubs he was a member with since I had spotted him riding with Wetherby Velo last Saturday. So including Seacroft he had 3 on the go but today his desires were a slower one rather than one where he needed his race face on. 😫🚴
Having turned into the wind we headed through Copmanthorpe to Askham Richard and a cafe stop at the Coffee shop.
Always excellent fayre and even at £7 the meal deal was perfect. Plus all 8 of us attended. 👌
The final leg was back via Healaugh and Wighill after which Stuart, Pete and Bob peeled off leaving the remaining five to carry on to Wetherby and home. Well ridden guys and as ever excellent company.
