WW Saturday Ride to Riccall, 6 April 2024, 40 miles.

I had received an email from Alec informing me that a new member had joined our ranks. Suzanna take a bow.
True to form Suzanna was at the Shambles when I arrived for our 9.00am start. Suzanna had recently moved from Leicestershire to take a position at Bedale and having been a Cycling Club member down there was keen to join a new club in Gods own county.
Destination was the Pickled at Riccall and the plan was to meet Pete C and Bob L at Tom Foolery at Boston Spa. In addition Pete D coming from Leeds wh would meet us at Stutton.
Off we went along the Walton road before turning to cross the Wharfe into BS. After the introductions we carried on towards Tadcaster before turning right on to Rudgate. It was here we ran into a mechanical delay. The beloved Highways department had tarred and chipped the road but left it unswept.
Pete C dropped a pedal from his crank resulting in a call home to Ann for the Team car to collect him. In the meantime we contacted Pete D to explain the delay. This left the three of us to carry on, but Pete C said he would chase us down on his replacement bike. To add to the excitement, Toulston Lane had also been chipped.
We met up with Pete D at Stutton and also got the message Pete C was on his way.
Leaving Stutton we headed for Ulleskelf and Cawood. However as our progress was not quick we gave Pete D the opportunity to ride on ahead and complete the ride quicker. The three of us arrived at Riccall about two minutes ahead of Pete C.
After a convivial coffee, sandwich and cake etc we took the Planet’s cycle path to Naburn. From there to Copmanthorpe and back to Walton where we split, Pete and Bob for BS and Suzanna and I for Wetherby.
It was Bob’s longest ride for sometime as well as Pete’s. Both did really well considering their steady recovery from injury and illness.
Final word for Suzanna who rode strongly and was great company. She is working to get her fitness back and is an asset to the Club. Enjoyed the ride guys and thank you.
