Wetherby – Lockwood Plantation Café, Thursday 20th April 2023, 46 miles

With most of WW’s Thursday crowd away in Majorca only 3 riders were out yesterday: Nick, Bill and Sean. It was a sunny day but cold and we were all on summer bikes for the first time this year.
As usual we met at 9:30 in the Shambles, Wetherby and because of the weather forecast telling us it would get increasingly windy as the day progressed, we decided to head East to have an easy ride home. First, we headed to Wighill, then Tadcaster and on to Cawood. Luckily the bridge had reopened so we followed the river up to Stillingfleet and Naburn then headed East to the A19 (briefly) then onto the Wheldrake road for a mile or so to the unmarked entrance to the café. We would never have found it had Nick not known about it in advance.
We sat outside in the sunshine eating sandwiches and brownies. We were sheltered from the wind and it was pleasantly warm. We would all thoroughly recommend the café which had a large selection of cakes, pasties and meals and lots of space inside and out.
The return trip home was shorter – back from Naburn to Copmanthorpe via the old railway track, then over the A64 and the back road to Askham Richard, Healaugh, Wighill and on to Wetherby (though I cheated and cut off back to Boston Spa via the Thorpe Arch Trading Estate).
