Wetherby – Hampsthwaite, Sunday 5th March 2023, 38 miles

Only four riders at the start in Wetherby but Kathy had made an 8.15 start from her home in Hampsthwaite to make the Wheelers’ start time of 9,30. It was cold but not too windy as Nick, Brendan and Graham escorted Kathy back home. Out via KOB, Burn Bridge, Beckwithshaw and Penny Pot Lane to the excellent Sophie’s cafe. There was plenty of room inside but for busy times there was a large marquee at the back to keep you dry.

After a very nice bacon sandwich, we were joined briefly by Dennis who had noticed our bikes as he passed through the village. We said goodbye to Kathy and then headed over the bridge and up Clint Lane towards Burnt Yates. Then it was a fast descent to Ripley where Bob and Geoff crossed the roundabout ahead of us and ignored our shouts as they continued on their way to Sophie’s. We decided against trying to catch them and carried on to Knaresborough on the back roads through Brearton and Scotton. Then it was the usual Wetherby road out of Knaresborough and home. Not a particularly long ride but an excellent destination. 38 miles completed.
