Wetherby – Selby, Sunday 19th February 2023, 60 miles

Sunday and Selby on the calendar.
Four Wheelers in the Shambles. Nick, Geoff, Bob J. and Paddy. Plus two guests from K’bro area and the promise of meeting Steve W. later.
The weather was quite good and Friday’s gales had dropped. I had planned to go down thro’ Church Fenton but readily accepted Bob’s suggestion of Fairburn, Hallam and Brayton. Once you get off the main roads, this takes in some nice lanes and we enjoyed the sunshine. We picked up Steve just before Selby. Paddy was missing but I didn’t have to go far to find him during which time, Bob had commandeered two small tables in the very busy café.

We returned, as I had thought to go out, through Bishop Wood. Paddy took a turn in the lead but by Church Fenton he was AWOL. Again, he wasn’t far behind but had had no lunch since he couldn’t eat his homemade sandwiches in the cafe. We paused for a minute and he reckoned on having a lunch break, didn’t seem tired and insisted that I carry on so that’s what we did. By now though, I had lost contact with the others and didn’t see them again, but no problem since we were nearly in Ulleskelf. Not too far from home and they would be going to K’bro anyway. The wind had got up a bit as I passed Grimston Park, ( by which route? Ed), to Tadcaster, and having no Boston Spa co-riders I went Tockwith via Wighill.
