Four intrepid cyclists, me, Greg, Bob J and Graham B left the Shambles on a very cold day that just didn’t get any warmer- sub-zero all day. We set off at a pretty brisk pace to Knaresborough, onwards to Staveley, Miniskip, Boroughbridge, Helperby and Raskelf after which I had the first of the day’s punctures. Unfortunately, there was no alternative but to stop and repair it, even though we were relatively close to Easingwold. Once repaired we headed for the Fika Café and a well-earned break! Greg was for heading home after coffee as he was finding it very cold, but we persuaded him to carry on.
After coffee in Easingwold we jumped back on our trusty steads towards Strensall and our second puncture of the day – at least the sun was shining at this point. Once Graham had changed his inner tube we carried on through Sutton on the Forest and in to York and Cycle Heaven. Here three of us went in for a relatively late lunch, but Greg decided to skip lunch and ride solo back home.
Once replete we headed for Bishopthorpe and Copmanthorpe. Before getting to Copmanthorpe Bob peeled off, leaving Graham and I to cycle back to Wetherby. Despite the fact that I was flagging, we made relatively good time back in to Wetherby.
A fairly flat ride, but at a relatively good pace on a very cold day. Oh and did I mention that Bob was riding a single speed, fixed wheel bike? There was no holding him!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our readers! 😁🎅❄️🎄
