On Monday evening the canvas on WhatsApp of attendees started slowly and by 9.15 the following morning had swelled to seven. They were Pete C, Dave Westerman, Keith, Bob L, Alec, Stuart (surprise appearance on his E-bike) and me Steve B.
Steve P couldn’t make it as he had insisted on his dental appointment being on a Tuesday. In addition, Nick hoped to join us en route.
The plan was the Sausage Roll ride to Cafe Plenty at Boroughbridge, into the wind going out but helping with the home run.
Our route took us back over the Wharfe to Wetherby and up the A168 to the Arkendale turning. Thankfully Stuart provided fresh legs or was it electricity into the wind. From there we made for Copgrove, Bishop Monkton and Littlethorpe before turning east on the approach to Ripon. We said our hello’s to Jean and her peloton shortly before Littlethorpe, good to see them out 🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️👍.
Once we had turned for Skelton and Boroughbridge the graft into the wind was over.
As planned on arrival at cafe Plenty there was Nick strategically placed at the big table with seats for all of us. However on entering we saw Sean who had also appeared for his late brunch.
We all squeezed round the table and ordered the usual coffee, sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes.
Sean left us to head back via the A168 and the rest of us took in the Dunsforths but decided against risking the Cattal bridge flood waters and crossed the A59 travelling through Whixley village. Once over the railway, we joined the A168 and back to Wetherby where we all went our separate ways home. Enjoyed the ride guys and excellent company. Even the weather behaved.
