Wetherby – Easingwold, Saturday 19th November 2022, 50 miles

The Magnificent Seven (Graham, Steve, Alec, Bob, Pete, Geoff and Sean) set off at 9am from Wetherby Market place. It was raining slightly but we’d all decided to settle for that after the last few day’s downpours. We took the alternative route to Whitley avoiding reported flooding at Cattal. This took us via a manual gated level crossing that was only just long enough for a bike. Then over Aldwark bridge followed by a long loop to Easingwold via Tollerton and Huby. Geoff said he had to get home so wouldn’t stop and we said our goodbyes. All the cafes in The marketplace looked full but we managed to squeeze into the well-named Cosy Cafe even with Geoff deciding to join us after all (things were running late at home).

Graham planned a slightly shorter ride home and said goodbye to Geoff again as he headed to Knaresborough via Boroughbridge. We’d only gone a few miles when Bob hit some debris in the road which punctured his rear tyre. The usual tyre-changing committee didn’t slow repairs down too much which was good because it was cold and the rain was getting heavier. We avoided Cattal again and went our separate ways as we approached Wetherby. I managed exactly 50 miles and got home in time for the Grand Prix qualifying!
