Wetherby – Allerthorpe, Thursday 10th November 2022, 66 miles

Me (Mike B), Graham, Michael, Greg, Steve W and Nick met in the Shambles at 09:30 for a fine, but blustery ride to Allerthorpe. Our route took us through Walton, Tadcaster, Acaster Malbis and along to Acaster Bridge where we crossed the river to Naburn. Onwards to Crockey Hill and to Wheldrake where I have to say that we were not made to feel the least bit welcome at Caffé Valeria. So much so that we left and headed to the far more welcoming Rebecca’s Kitchen at Elvington. Suitably refreshed we continued on 10 miles or so to Allerthorpe Lake, via Thornton, where we had an agreeable lunch. From there we headed to Melbourne and back towards Elvington, via Sutton Upon Derwent.

From there we pretty much retraced our route to Wheldrake where we turned to Escrick and then back to Naburn. Once over the river we headed for Copmanthorpe and then our usual route back to Walton via Healaugh and Wighill. Just before Walton we bid a fond farewell to Nick who rode for home along Rudgate. In Walton Michael, Greg and I elected to head out for Bramham and then to the A58 in Scarcroft, whilst Graham and Steve returned to Wetherby. A largely uneventful ride at a steady pace in blustery, but fine conditions. Think Caffé Valeria will definitely be crossed off the list of Wheelers café stops! Thanks to Graham for once again organising the route.
