On a grey morning six of us met at Boston Spa with not much enthusiasm as the weather forecast was poor. We even received a message from Phil R. saying he wasn’t riding as he knew for a fact that it would rain and rain. He could see the rain from his house window and it was heading in our direction. So, Nick, Frank, Cathy, Keith, Bob L and myself (Pete C) set off wondering how long it would be before we got our drenching, Riding out of B. Spa towards Tadcaster then turning right up the long drag through Toulston, Sutton, Ulleskelf and on to Cawood (we were still dry!). Then over the bridge to Stillingfleet and Naburn, taking the back road to Crockey Hill cafe. Our first disappointment was that the cafe was shut and our second disappointment was having to retrace our route on a very busy road. Then via the back road to Naburn, along the cycle track towards Copmanthorpe as a decision was made to call at Little Acorns Cafe which we knew would be open. Although sat at two separate tables, we spoke about Mark Lawrence and his accident, wishing him a quick recovery and also the success of last Sunday’s memorial ride. I finally filled my loyalty card at the cafe for a free drink!! (Still not raining!). So, homeward bound through Askham Bryan, Healaugh, Wighill, stopping at Rudgate to say farewell to Nick. Arrived at Boston Spa and still dry although the sky looked threatening. Good to see that Cathy is improving with every ride. Only about 40 miles covered but glad we didn’t listen to the forecast (or Phil R !!).
