Wetherby – Cawood and York, Saturday 15 October 2022, 44 miles

With the weather dithering between showers and sunshine the question arose, should I get my winter bike ready or stick with my prepared summer steed?
Answer we all turned up in optimistic fashion with our preferred bikes, Mark L, Bob L and me Steve B.
A prompt start saw Mark and I set off at 9.00am down the Walton road and onto Wood Lane towards BS. Not before a call from the boss saying she was off to order the replacement sofa she had chosen and might be late back. I can report Mark one was ordered but not the planned one. 😂
I had agreed to meet Bob at Bramham as the route took us that way. From there we climbed up Back Lane to Toulston road and onto Stutton. Bob was due to go shopping in York in the afternoon, Christmas present time already Bob?
With the wind from the SW, Mark took up the reins and with his progressive tempo lead us smartly to Cawood. Didn’t have time for a drink 🍼. From here we rode on in similar fashion to York and the A19. From there we turned back on ourselves crossing the Millennium Bridge but not before the obligatory photo.
As we were ahead of schedule I had suggested a change to the route adding on a few miles going into York hence riding on from Naburn. In Bishopthorpe we turned and took the road through York and to Askham Bryan. Not sure my route change was ideal since it involved far more traffic.
We arrived at the Grange at Askham Richard having completed most of the mornings mileage. Coffees, bacon sandwiches and a scone were the preferred refreshments. A VSCC rider from Leeds arrived for his refuelling while we were there , it occurred to me he had been sent to Coventry as he was solo. If that was the case he was going the wrong way. 😀
Having established the Womens Rugby team had beaten France it was time to ride on.
Again Mark took up the strain as we took a roundabout route via Catterton to Healaugh and the Walton road. At the turn for BS we stopped to say our goodbyes before heading home. Again not before Mark had a double dose of medicinal jelly babies for all his hard work on the front. Have to say the weather stayed kind including the sunshine 🌞.
I can report I got home about 30 seconds after Carol, to be fully briefed on her expedition. Thanks guys enjoyed the ride.
