Nine riders (Graham, Geoff, Bob, Phil, Bill, Pete, Mark, Nick and Glyn) set off in fine weather with a slight head/cross wind, heading for lunch at How Stean Gorge Cafe. The peloton headed out through Sicklinghall, Kirkby Overblow, Burn Bridge and on to our first refreshment stop at Fewston Farm cafe. Nick and Bill left us at this point. The sun had disappeared behind ominously grey clouds as the riders set off, but fortunately, it stayed dry. Dennis joined us along the way only to leave us at Lofthouse for the enjoyment of riding up Trapping Hill! After lunch the rain, that had kindly kept away until now, arrived. The intended ride up Trapping Hill was aborted (to the relief of at least two of us). Rain jackets were donned and we headed back down the road to Pateley Bridge, then taking the main road to Ripley. The rain, although light, remained with us until then. Geoff and Bob left us here. The remaining riders headed back to Wetherby, only for the rain to arrive once again.
Even though the weather wasn’t too kind, it was still a great day out and I’m sure, enjoyed by all.
