Wetherby – Richmond, Thursday 2nd June 2022, 90 miles

On the first day of the long Jubilee weekend by my count fourteen turned out for the ride to ride to Richmond: Graham, Mike B, Sean, Greg, Steve W, Mick, Glyn, Pete D, Bob, Bill, Nick, Phil, Fred and myself, Michael. Two seasons of kit on display with shorts paired with a variety of tops.

The bunch enjoyed a tailwind to Boroughbridge via the A168 then headed east and north to Topcliffe for coffee at the Angel pub. Fred, back from his training camp in France, had peeled off on the way leaving thirteen to enjoy the sunshine by the fountain in the pub garden.

Sean turned back after coffee leaving twelve on the road towards Northallerton. Numerous “on Swale” villages were ticked off and as Richmond approached Steve B barrelled past in the opposite direction having made and early start (thanks for the photo).

Richmond market square was not quite as usual with a fun fair in place and Rishi Sunak enjoying himself (see photo) on the Limbo Dancer ride. As we arrived in two groups some chose Greggs and others the indoor café in the market where nuclear hot paninis were the favoured choice.

The return south via Catterick Garrison took us past Masham, through West Tanfield and into Ripon where Steve W kindly bought the drinks on his birthday at the Spa Gardens. Bob peeled off in Knaresborough to meet up with Geoff for a beer – keep up the recovery Geoff.

All returned safely to Wetherby ending a top summer ride. Thanks to Graham for a lovely route which clocked up 90-116 miles (kudos PD).
