Two reports in a day !
As Saturday ride leader for the day I had chosen a route to avoid much of the wind and hopefully have it in our favour for the return leg.
Five of us assembled for a 9.00am start in the Shambles, they were Mark, Simon, Bob L, Kenn and me Steve B.
Our route took us up the Walton road where we turned left to head for Rudgate and onto Cattal. Despite being into the wind it was far from troublesome.
At the climb up to Whixley Kenn gave a professional burst from the back to hit the front leaving me to only admire the effort. That said Mark and Simon not to be out done gave chase leaving Bob and I in their wake, I am reliably informed Kenn failed to hang onto his KOM jersey.
After the excitement we rode on through Thorpe Underwood, Great Ouseburn and the Dunsforths to Boroughbridge, already sensing the wind becoming our friend and a café stop at Plenty.
We were told there wasn’t room for five of us until I pointed out the reserved table for 1.30 would do admirably as we were only going to be half an hour. Service was good as was the food, Simon was initially concerned his egg and bacon sandwich might be too big, needn’t have worried he demolished it.
With the wind in our favour we cracked on to Bishop Monkton and then Copgrove and Knaresborough. Clearly the right way to ride it. To add to the enjoyment Tue wind support was saving Kenn electricity for his bike.
At the turning to Cowthorpe we said good bye to Simon as the rest of us headed to Wetherby where we took our separate ways home. Thanks guys thoroughly enjoyed the morning and back for 1.00pm.
