On a chilly but bright morning, Mike B, Michael, Mark, Nick, Steve W, Sean, Kathy, Bill, Geoff, Graham, Pete D and Glyn set off heading for Easingwold and our first stop for refreshments at The Fika Room. We were met here by Dennis and Andrew who joined us for the rest of the ride. Bill, Geoff and Kathy had only intended to reach here and left us at this point.
Still heading into the wind but with the temperature rising we headed for the hills and our lunch stop at Helmsley. This was taken at Auntie Annie’s Bakery where the food is baked ‘In the Yorkshire way’ whatever that means!
Fully refreshed, we headed out of town with the wind behind us now. Even with wind assistance, the four mile climb out of Helmsley was hard work but the reward of a fast descent down Wass bank made it worthwhile.
Now back on the flatter roads, the speed quickened and the chance to stop for well earned refreshments at Chez Nous in Boroughbridge was accepted by most of the crew.
With the afternoon sun beating down we could have stayed there for much longer. The most direct route back along the A168 was taken arriving in Wetherby just before 5.00pm.
A grand day out with mileage for most being at least 75 miles.
