Wetherby – Wheldrake, Saturday 2nd April 2022, 46 miles

There were 6 members who completed this ride from the Market place who were myself Graham, Glyn, Mark, Pete Cartledge, Fred1 and Phil Webb. We set off at 9.00am precisely and headed for Walton and Wighill. Then it was a left turn and on to Copmanthorpe and Naburn. Once over the river we turned for Crockey Hill and then the Wheldrake Road. I had told Pete Dack that we should get to the Cafe Valeria between 10.30 and 11.00 and I think we arrived smack on time. Pete had just arrived himself and so we went inside and managed to sit together. Steve Ward then arrived to join us but just for coffee. Generous portions of cake2 and decent coffee.

The return route took us first to Escrick and then back over the river at Naburn. Then we took the Bolton Percy road to Tadcaster. Pete Cartledge left us in Tad and the rest of us, including Pete Dack, returned to Walton on the Wighill road. It was a very pleasant ride with light winds and no real rain, although there were showers about3. Very pleased to say that we got back into Wetherby at 12.55. Almost perfect timing.

Editor’s notes:

  1. Fred actually got to the Market Place at 09:01am, so had to chase us down on the Walton Road.
  2. Colossal, in fact.
  3. Graham was the only rider on a bike with mudguards, so was justifiably smug when we came across wet roads.
