Wetherby – How Stean Gorge, Thursday 24th March 2022, 72-96 miles

Riders: Graham, Sean, Geoff, Glyn, Fred, Pete D, Nick, Mike B, and Michael B.

Route: Top drawer route planned by Graham: Kirkby Overblow to Burn Bridge and Norwood Lane for coffee at Fewston Farm Shop. Fred and then Geoff turned for home and we continued through Darley and Summerbridge to Pateley Bridge then past Gouthwaite reservoir to Lofthouse and the café at How Stean Gorge. Return had a twist from Graham as we turned left past the reservoir at the Sportman’s Arms pub and took a lovely scenic route (Wath Road) above the valley and into Pateley. From Pateley we took the road to Brimham Rocks, joined the Way of the Roses and returned via Ripley, Scotton and Knaresborough.

Weather report: For March quite lovely with shorts, sunshine and little wind.

Dramatic moments: Glyn’s chain malfunctioned requiring a new link. He not only had one but fitted it.

Summary: for March in Yorkshire the route and weather were hard to beat.
