Five of us arrived for a 9.00 am start in the Shambles. They were Nick (today’s leader), Phil W, Glyn, Pete C and me Steve B. Four of us still had Thursdays ride in our legs so a gentle morning was the plan.
The weather was better than expected but still windy, well it is March!
Rolling out we headed to Sicklinghall and Kirby Overblow, an apt name. Turning north on the Harrogate road we then turned left and rode up the climb to North Rigton. This was the first time I had approached the Crag from the east side, normally from the south or the west.
As expected the views were worth it and the obligatory photo was necessary.
Descending through Stainburn to Leathley we rode to the Hunter’s cafe at Pool. A welcome rest from the wind. The cafe was busy but we managed to get a sheltered spot alfresco. I have to say Glyn had the biggest Vanilla Slice I have seen in a long time, didn’t stop him polishing it off, probably slightly usurped by my sausage and black pudding sandwich 😁.
With Glyn heading to His home in Leeds we rode back to take the Castley turning and bade him safe journey home.
The remaining four headed to Weeton and back through Kirby Overblow again to Wetherby where we said our fair wells and headed home.
The ride certainly loosened some stiff legs.
Thanks to Nick for his route and organisation and an enjoyable ride.
