Wetherby – Copmanthorpe, Saturday 5th March 2022, 35 miles

With a 9.00am start as usual it was pleasing to see six riders turn out on a sunny but windy day. The riders were Alec, our leader for the day, Fred, Phil W, Glyn, Pete C and me Steve B.

Alec had planned to ride across the wind for most of the route and was keen to make use of the national cycling route 665 I think.

We set off onto Hallfield Lane to pick up the cycling route to take us to Thorpe Arch. Going under the motorway we encountered our first wet area as the path beneath was flooded, all safely through the sheep dip and not to wet. Carrying on Alec’s wet and wild tour we then enjoyed a long run through the log floom before exiting at Walton.

I had not ridden the new section from Thorpe Arch to Newton Kyme so a picture on the bridge was needed.

Having joined the BS to Tadcaster road we quickly turned right up Rudgate and a further right before taking a left towards Stutton. It was at this stage we had ongoing company with the York Sportive underway. Descending to Stutton we took a sharp left to Tadcaster and headed east to Catterton and again rode against the Sportive entrants as we turned right at Bilborough to head to Colton and onto Copmanthorpe. Turning left we rode into Askham Richard and the Grange cafe. Guess what, Fred stopped for a coffee and he paid for it. 🤣🤣

The final leg took us to Long Marston via Angram and then Tockwith. At the crossroads with Rudgate we split and Fred and Phil headed to Cowthorpe and home at Wetherby, the rest of us took the road to Walton and BS where Pete peeled off leaving the three of us to ride to Bramham and onto towards Bardsey. I peeled off for home down Jewitt Lane leaving Alec and Glyn to complete their rides.

Thanks Alec for a good morning and to all for a very enjoyable ride.
