There was a frost and the potential for ice so just me (Keith) and Frank out this morning. Pete Cartledge isn’t fit enough to ride just now but came down to the meeting place to see us off. We heading up through Wetherby, Knaresborough then through Scriven and Lingerfield (which wasn’t as much of a hill as I remembered) before turning left through Scotton and on to Ripley. After decent coffee and toasted teacakes at the café at Ripley Castle, we headed back on the very pleasant railway path to Bilton where we turned onto the road past the pub and rode the path back to Knaresborough. The road by the river was quiet – certainly by Saturday standards – and, again, very pleasant. Frank convinced me to detour down to the Watermill café which was closed but is certainly a pretty spot. After that, it was the usual road back through Little Ribston to Wetherby where Frank dropped to visit family. I took the Thorp Arch railway path to Newton Kyme then headed back to the place whose name cannot be spoken. The weather turned out OK, the roads were good and Frank selected one of my favourite routes – a great morning out on the bike! Oh, and no near misses!
