Wetherby – Hovingham, Thursday 18th November 2021, 75 miles

Riders: Steve W, Mike B, Nick, Sean, Greg, Graham and Michael B.

Route: Usual Catal/Aldwark route towards Easingwold but skirting east to arrive in Hovingham via Huby and Crayke. Return through Oswaldkirk, Ampleforth and Coxwold with a final coffee stop at Plenty in Boroughbridge.

Weather report: Remarkably mild for mid November with a bit of a westerly.

May be of interest: Nick peeled off around Crayke. The café at Hovingham was closed but the bakery next door provided good sandwiches and drinks for lunch on benches by the ford and brook. Apparently a bit of money around in Hovingham judging by the motors. Lovely run from Hovingham skirting the moors with fine views including the White Horse and Byland Abbey.

What we learned: Aston Martin cars rattle a bit. Aldwark bridge’s days are numbered. Mike B’s birthday is imminent – thanks for the coffees in Boroughbridge. The Wheelers team time trial squad needs a little more work before Le Tour…
