Wetherby – Masham, Sunday 24th October 2021, 62 miles

Six of us set off on a slightly gloomy Sunday morning – Frank, Steve W, Michael, Simon, Nick and myself. Back to Knaresborough (I could have joined the others there and watched the rest of Match of the Day!). On to Bishop Monkton where Frank had cassette problems and turned back home with only one available gear. Down to 5. Approaching Ripon it started chucking it down so we called in at Spa Gardens cafe for hot drinks and proceeded to have lengthy discussions about Covid and global warming. I popped to the loo to return to the latest topic – Cumberland wrestling. The rain eased off and Nick and Simon then returned home. Down to 3.
We proceeded to Masham but no room in the inn so had sit outside but excellent food at Johnny Bagdad’s. They even had brown sauce in a bottle instead of struggling to open sachets ( I usually resort to using my teeth to open!).
We then bombed back on a short route but not long before more rain. I left them near Knaresborough for a pub rendezvous with a WW who chickened out of the club ride (well he had done a 200k audax the day before), leaving Steve and Michael to return home in dry weather.
Sorry, no photo.
