Despite offering free coffee as a tempter, (it was my birthday on the 22nd), only three of us met at the Shambles in Wetherby for a 9.00am start. They were Pete Dack, Pete Cartledge and myself Steve B.
Nick H appeared carrying shopping bags but no bike, apologies accepted and he wished us a good ride.
Pete C warned us his knee was clicking and it may affect his ride. Neither Pete D nor I could name the clicking tune.
With a following breeze we set off through Kirk Deighton, Little Ribston to Knaresborough. Slipping in a loop through Old Scriven before swinging back to Farnham and onto Copgrove, Burton Leonard where the road is closed for six weeks but we were able to slip through. However you can get through round the back of the village. Onto Wormald Green and Markington before turning to head through Bishop Monkton and Roecliffe onto Boroughbridge. Apart from a couple of short stops for clicking noises from the bikes (not convinced it wasn’t Pete C’s bionic knee), it was a clean run to the cafe Plenty. Despite the cafe being busy we managed to get served enjoying our selected choices.
With the wind having increased in strength we set off through the Dunsforths towards Great Ouseburn, Thorpe Underwood, Whixley. Not long into the return Pete C advised us he had started with cramp and with over ten miles still to do we tempered our efforts to ensure he was able to comfortably get home. Pleased to say he stuck to his task through the villages, up through Rudgate, Walton and home to Boston Spa. Pete D was able to ride on as he had a longer journey home and with me taking the Walton road home to Wetherby all turned out well in the end.
Thanks for the company guys and an enjoyable ride.
