Wetherby – Sherburn, Saturday 2nd October 2021, 34 miles

Despite the threat of rain and Alec’s Enforcer turning up, five of us arrived at the Shambles ready for action. They were Graham (today’s ride leader), Mark (the Enforcer), Pete C, Simon and me Steve B. The plan was to keep it shorter and avoid the rain.

Pete C announced he had to be back early for his Covid booster, or was it his EPO top up. He’s riding very strong!

We set off up the Walton road and turned right onto Wood Lane to Boston Spa. From there we headed out of the village to Windmill Hill and on towards Stutton. Graham and Mark setting a steady pace into the wind. Turning onto the A162 Sherburn road, we then hung a left to Ulleskelf and onto Church Fenton. From here we went past British Gypsum and into Sherburn in Elmet. We arrived at Penny’s cafe at 10:20am. Resisting the desire for refreshments Pete C rode home to get his EPO (I mean Covid) jab.

A pleasant cafe very reasonable as well. Having had coffee and a sandwich we set off back via Sir Johns Lane towards Aberford. The wind was coming now from the SE and was a welcome help driving us home. At Aberford we turned North towards Bramham where Mark headed home to Scarcroft and Simon went onto Boston Spa and home to Tockwith.

Graham and I rode the main road home back to Wetherby. Pleased to say we avoided the rain and despite the wind we had an enjoyable ride.

Thanks to Graham for the route.
