Wetherby – Easingwold, Sat 18th September 2021, 50 miles

Today saw the inaugural (new) Saturday ride arrangement, with the ride leader being one of six taking it in turns to welcome and chastise the attendees with their ride selection. It will be steady boys with no one getting dropped.😂🚴‍♂️

Five of us gathered in Wetherby Market Place for a 9.00 am roll call. Michael B, Today’s Ride Leader, Mark, Geoff, Pete D and myself Steve B. Easingwold was our ultimate destination for coffee etc. We set off down the A168 and then through Hunsingore to Cattal where Pete D suggested we knock it back a bit as I was having a “Connery” at the back. To be fair it wasn’t that bad.

We had a delay at the Cattal level crossing waiting for the Harrogate express to trundle out. Michael, mental note to check future train times, please.

Up and over the hill into Wixley, through Thorpe Underwood, over the Aldwark Bridge and onto Easingwold at a briskish pace. Pete D signalled right at the roundabout coming into Easingwold but rode straight on. I waved a few apologies to the bewildered traffic.

A leisurely coffee and snack were enjoyed at The Fika cafe with pleasant conversation on what was a busy morning. We had just managed to beat the Selby cycling club into Easingwold thereby avoiding any long delays. We set off back heading to Brafferton and Thornton Bridge before turning to Boroughbridge. I even managed a turn on the front before they took pity on me. Through the Dunsforths where at Upper D Geoff peeled off for Knaresborough and home.

Retracing our steps to Cattal we again lost one as I went towards the A168 at Walshford and Wetherby, the others turned up Rudgate with Leeds and Scarcroft being their ultimate home destinations.

Big thank you to Michael for his impeccable leadership and to all for their generous towing work getting me home as promised before 1pm.

A great ride I believe enjoyed by all.

Steve B

P.S. Who’s that fat lad on the back?
