Boston Spa – Easingwold, Tue 14th September 2021, 45 miles

With the weather threatening rain all day only 4 intrepid Vets turned up at Boston Spa church. They were Frank, Pete C, Steve P and me Steve B. While waiting we got a call from Kenn to say he couldn’t make it. We inspected the weather App and decided Easingwold offered the best route to avoid most of the rain. Pete C had upgraded his bike to include foam on his handlebars to soften the vibration from rough road surfaces. His shoulder is getting better.

Steve P showed his initiative,(he couldn’t find his rear mudguard) and put his front guard on the rear. Frank’s bike was as normal and I had brought my winter bike. First time out for months.

We set off over the Wharfe to Walton, Rudgate and Cattal on dry roads in fine but overcast weather. Up and over the hill to Wixley and over the rickety rackety bridge at Aldwalk where they still hadn’t repaired the plank with a hole in it. Onto Tholthorpe and Raskelf where we encountered a few drops of rain before arriving at Easingwold.Early lunch stop at Tea Hee where toast, scone and paninis refreshed the intrepid four.

Conversation covered road traffic incidents, police stories experienced by us from the past. The old ones are the best.

Despite donning winter garb the weather started fine and apart from some light rain for part of the ride we made our return all agreeing the day and ride had turned out brilliantly. Three for Boston Spa and one for Wetherby.

As Frank put it — HE WHO DARES WINS.
