Saturday morning was our nominated Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity ride out, and dawned with the threat of rain, so an early start of 8.30 was proposed from the returning ride leader Keith – clearly feeling the pressure after Mark’s “zero complaints” ride the previous Saturday. Me (Darren), Keith and Mark set off at 8.30 from Bramham, picking up Pete C in Boston Spa. The ride out via Cattal came to an abrupt end with some spectator sport that used up much of the 30 minutes early start! whilst I changed a rear mystery flat. Kit review spoiler – the pre-gel filled tubes a) don’t prevent punctures, and b) don’t fold up to go into your saddle bag! On a fresh tube we passed through Cattal and Whixley and Little Ouseburn before light but steady rain arrived and we donned waterproofs. Upper and Lower Dunsforth were very quiet and we swept through Alborough. The coffee stop in Boroughbridge included (warm!) scones, jackflap and a mystery cake but – controversially – no bacon butty this week. We headed back out in light towards Minskip and Stavely before passing through a busy Knaresborough into an extremely busy Wetherby where we diverted via the by-pass (why don’t many of the other cars use this??), back into Boston Spa dropping Pete C off before the return to Bramham, from where him Mark made his way home. A good, and not too wet ride despite the forecast. There is no Keith next week either, so as Phil is now out of excuses, the pressure is on him as nominated deputy ride leader next week !
