Bramham – Boroughbridge, 22nd May 2021, 49 miles

Unseasonally cool conditions were not enough to stop Keith and Darren turning up in shorts. Stuart and Phil opted for cold-weather clothing although there was speculation about whether Phil even owns any shorts.

We headed off through Boston Spa and Whixley – at which point Stuart decided to take a shorter route home. We spent several minutes at Aldwarke toll bridge while a car driver argued with bridge guy. We then pushed against a headwind to Helperby before turning back to Boroughbridge for the coffee stop. We took a scenic route back – great views as we went down the lane to Marton-cum-Grafton (see photo) followed by the back lane from Arkendale to Coneythorpe.

After a painfully slow crossing of the A59 we took the dog-leg through Goldsborough before hitting the Wetherby road where, through some meteorological quirk, we appeared to be riding into a headwind again.60s music was the topic so playlist recommendations this week are:

  • The Box-Tops – The Letter
  • The Monkees – Me and Magdelena
  • The Monkees – Shades Of Grey
