Wetherby – Masham, 8th April 2021, 80 miles

10 Wetherby Wheelers members gathered socially distanced at the Shambles ready for the Thursday club ride to Masham:  Mark, Pete D, Michael B, Mike Bos., Graham, Greg, Nick, Geoff, Bob and myself Steve W.

We divided into 2 groups of 5 and arranged to meet at the Chez Nous café in Boroughbridge.

I was in the first group off, which set a brisk pace all the way to Boroughbridge with a cold nagging, mainly westerly wind.

Surprisingly Geoff and Nick were already there having peeled of the second group and taken a short cut on the green road from Copgrove.

Before setting off for Masham via Wath and West Tanfield I managed to negotiate a rider exchange with Greg, giving me a chance to get my breath back in the second group.

Before Wath the first group appeared from behind having taken a detour via Marton le Moor. After another rearrangement of groups in Wath we all met up in Masham at the Border cafe, were the service was quick and friendly.

But the conditions were not conducive for hanging around as the temperature had dropped and light rain had started.

Bob and Geoff set off to keep warm, I was promoted into the mountain goat group for the climb to Grewelthorpe (it was a good way to get warmed up) and set off shortly after, followed by the next group.

Hell for leather into Ripon as usual, then a more steady ride back to Wetherby after waving Geoff and Bob off at Knaresborough.

Extra kudos to Pete D, Mike, Michael, Greg and Mark, who still had some tough miles to cover back into a strengthening blustery wind.

Great day out and no mishaps or mechanicals.
